About Us

Dean and Della Bedwell built their first home in the year 1970 when Barry was 2 years old. With humble financial resources, it was necessary that the Bedwell’s utilize a hands-on approach. While Della was responsible for most of the painting, wall finish, and decorating, Dean laid out and provided the labor for placing the steel in the footings and slab, etc.

 

Barry’s involvement and education began at a very young age, although his efforts were not always productive. Dean recalls an occasion when he was laying out a foundation for a new home for his good friend. The customer was holding one end of a 100ft. tape measure and Dean was walking to a point across the lot when he heard hysterical laughter behind him. Dean turned in time to see Barry, 5 years old, chopping the perfectly good tape measure with a hatchet. Needless to say, Barry was the subject on many similar occurrences over the years. He learned well the incorrect ways of doing things around construction sites during those formative years.

 

While Barry had a peripheral interest and involvement over the years, he did not become part of the team full time until after his graduation from college in 1991.

 

Over the years, Dean and Barry have built several hundred homes in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle. In 2003, Dean retired from active involvement and Barry became the sole owner and president of Bedwell Homes, LTD. He has built many homes in Amarillo and the area, as well as ranch homes and lodges in the Panhandle.

 

The Bedwells have been in the home building business for over 40 years. Customer satisfaction is documented by the number of home owners who have come back for their second and third Bedwell Homes. Barry is willing, and yes, almost insistent, that you visit with customers for whom he has built. Ask them about the quality of construction, their experience during the construction phase, and service after completion.
